Directions: Mix all ingredients and refrigerate until needed.
Bring Kansas City Strip Steaks to room temperature. Combine water and vinegar with 1 tablespoon of steak base and stir until dissolved. Apply baste to both sides of steak and let stand for 15 minutes.
On grill, place meat directly over fire and sear on both sides (the ideal distance between grill and top of the charcoal is 4 minutes; if your grill cannot be altered, it may be necessary to adjust grilling times listed below). Close or cover grill, but leave all air vents open.
Grilling times are based on a steak 1 inch thick, allow more time for thicker cuts:
Rare – 6 minutes, flip, 3 minutes
Medium rare – 8 minutes flip, 4 minutes
Medium- 8 minutes flip, 8 minutes
